We can give a brief overview about the components of the computer system. This is only because discussion about the components within the computer system can take huge hours of time if not days.
The components of computer system are seeing the phase of evolution where the advancements in technology is only increasing day by day and not the reverse. So you can see that there can be no compact views that can be presented for the components of the computer system.
In general the components of the computer system are classified into mainly two parts. These are tangible parts and intangible parts. Tangible components of the computer system are those which form the concrete touchable real and solid physical parts of the system.

These include those parts in combination of which we refer to them as “Hardware” parts of the computer. On the contrary the intangible components of the computer system are the indefinable, untouchable, not to be moved parts of the computer. So, in the same way we can tell these include those parts in combination of which we refer to them as “Software” components of the computer.
Now to define explicitly the hardware parts include- the monitor, the input output peripherals as the keyboard, the mouse, joystick, scanner, printer, plotter, speaker, webcam, lightpen etc.
Another important feature is the central processing unit tower which includes the combination of major parts of the system in the form of motherboard, Smps, Harddisk Drive, Cd Drive, cabinet etc. The motherboard is the vital part which contains the various slots for primary memory, CPU fan, and various other ports. Software of the computer primarily includes the Operating System software of DOS, WINDOWS, LINUX and various other Application softwares of MS-Office, Antivirus Softwares etc.

CPU (Central Processing Unit)- A chip that is the “brains” of your computer that processes the information.
